DEFINITION

A personal set or institutionalized system of particular religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. This covers both the agent identity, Christians, and the target identity which includes the 250 plus world religions as well as atheism and agnosticism. Christians remain the agent category in the United States because our systems are built around the Christian calendar and Christian value systems.  The two groups which experience the highest number of hate crimes are Jews and Muslims.
