Recently, documentary filmmaker Sabrina Schmidt Gordon discussed the origin of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter with its creators Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tomet. During their conversation, they covered social justice issues and how social media is now factoring in, as well as their vision for Black lives. The video was recently released by EmergingUS.
“People were tweeting us like, hey, didn’t ya’ll create Black Lives Matter? And then all of a sudden, it’s like the Black Lives Matter Movement and none of us are actually there to tell the story of Black Lives Matter,” said Khan-Cullors during the conversation.
